CETA Foundation: Mission & Scope of Programs
Mission:
*promote positive relationships between people and animals
*develop self-confidence and a sense of well-being in the participants
*fill needs for animals in our community and* involve the community in animal stewardship efforts.
A special effort will be made to involve at-risk youth
Values we strive to promote are compassion & empathy, respect, responsibility, self-discipline, humility and joy in the simple things. We recognize that our staff, our animals and our participants can give to and learn from each other.
ANIMAL-ASSISTED LEARNING & THERAPY
Participants can experience working with a wide variety of animals with the guidance of knowledgable staff. They will learn biology, psychology & social skills while getting exercise and having fun. Sessions will be tailored to the skill, age, emotional/physical capabilities and interests of the participants. Sessions can be held in a variety of settings ---home, ranch, hospital, schools, indoor/outdoor, etc. CETA staff is happy to work with professional counselors or educators. See the webpages on "Interactive Learning" and "Ranch Activities."
EDUCATIONAL PRESENTATIONS
CETA Foundation can arrange for animals to be brought to your site or for your group to see animals where they live for presentations on a wide range of subjects .
Currently, Veterinary Outreach is providing the educational programming and a list of topics can be found at www.vetoutreach.net or by contacting the CETA Foundation office.
FOSTER ANIMAL PROGRAM
RESCUE: When space is available, CETA Foundation takes in homeless animals (mostly dogs) that might not be "perfect" but would be good pets with a little TLC. Animals are kept at Phoenix Ranch for initial rehab/training and evaluation.
FOSTER: Participating families agree to care for and train a rescued animal in a caring home environment. An animal suitable for their lifestyle will be selected by CETA staff. They will receive lessons from CETA trainers on effective training techniques. Books, crates and training supplies can be acquired through CETA Foundation with deposits refunded when returned
TRAINING: Fostered animals will be trained with the goal of passing Canine Good Citizen test through CETA's CGC-certified evaluators
ADOPTION: Fostered animals will be offered for adoption when they are considered trained, in good physical and mental health. Listings will be placed on the CETA website, Petfinder.com, Craigslist.org and pet adoption fairs.
BENEFITS OF YOUR PARTICIPATION IN THE FOSTER PROGRAM:
- Learn how to be a good, responsible pet owner and how to use compassionate training techniques.
- Help reduce the number of animals euthanized in shelters without committing to pet ownership
- Provide your community with well-trained healthy pets to adopt.
- Give homeless animals a better chance of finding a "forever home."
- Become part of a community that finds joy in the company of animals and want to share their knowledge, skills and energy to make a difference.
