WHAT IS THERAPY PET REGISTRATION?

Registration with Therapy Dogs Inc.  or Love on a Leash gives you a certificate showing that you've been evaluated for knowledge and skill on handling a well-behaved, healthy dog for therapeutic visits in medical or non-medical environments. Registration also includes liability insurance.

Requirements for registration:

Therapy Dogs Inc requires current rabies vaccination, test for intestinal parasites, dog must at least 12 months old and known the handler for 3 months. Handler must be at least 16 years old. Temperament Test/Basic Obedience Test and three observations with a Tester/Observer, two of which must be at a medical facility. (There is no charge for Test or Observations.)  $25 annual fee for one handler/one dog team. Additional dogs or family members are $10. One-time new member fee $10. To stay current on their membership status, team must make 4 visits every year.

Love on a Leash requires current vaccinations and health clearance, a control evaluation then 10 hours of observed visitations. Dogs must be at elast 1 year old.  $35 membership fee for one team, Junior handlers age 13-18 $25.  There are no minimum number of visits per year to retain membership.

Free orientations will be held at various locations in Davis, Vacaville, Dixon and Fairfield.  Orientations for your group can be arranged by calling the CETA Foundation office.

Topics will cover the Therapy Dogs Inc.organization, what nakes a good therapy dog team, what equipment can be used, criteria used for passing the "test."  A video will be shown when possible.

THERAPY DOG / GOOD MANNERS WORKSHOPS

Learn the skills you need to be a good therapy dog team! A three hour session with  professional trainer  Jetta Mascon will polish your dog's good manners plus expose you both to the things and situations you will face in a healthcare setting. The handy skills based on the American Kennel Club Canine Good Citizen test make sure you pass the registration test and will make your life with your dog all the more enjoyable!
